Restricted Prescription Drug Distributor - Destruction

This permit is required for a person to take possession in Florida of a prescription drug for the purpose of arranging for its destruction, but does not include the manufacturer of that drug or a permitted Restricted Prescription Rx Drug Distributor – Reverse Distributor. This includes persons transporting prescription drugs to a destruction facility or to a warehouse awaiting destruction, and persons warehousing prescription drugs prior to destruction.

Licensing Exceptions:

  • Common carriers are not required to obtain this permit, although contract or private carriers must obtain this permit prior to obtaining possession of the prescription drugs in Florida.
  • A destruction facility (such as a landfill or incineration facility) is not required to obtain this permit if the prescription drugs are destroyed immediately upon receipt.
  • This permit is not required if a person only performs the service of processing prescription drugs (such as preparing an inventory) for destruction and does not physically remove any prescription drug products from an establishment.

Inspection: Passing an onsite inspection is a prerequisite to issuance of this permit.

License Term: Restricted Prescription Drug Distributor – Destruction permits are valid through the last day of the initial issuance month in the second year of licensure.  Example:  A permit issued on September 12, 2011 would be valid through September 30, 2013.

Fee: The application and permitting fee is $600 for a two-year permit, plus a one-time pre-permit inspection fee of $150. Make checks payable to DBPR. The inspection fee applies only to new permits.
