October 2, 2009 Dear Friends: We serve a diverse group of professionals whose "offices" range from construction job sites to restaurants and from the Gulf of Mexico to Florida's sink holes. As a department, we need to be considerate of how our requirements affect the professionals we serve. We will be making a change to make barbers and cosmetologists feel safer in their offices—salons and barbershops. Cosmetologists and barbers serve a number of customers throughout the year, and although they may know most, many are strangers. Some industry members are uncomfortable with the amount of personal information they must post at their workstations. Cosmetology and barber licensees are required to post their licenses, including their photos and home addresses, inside their workspaces. In order to protect licensees and provide a safer work environment, we will no longer be printing the addresses on cosmetology and barber licenses beginning this Tuesday. This is one way that we can address the concerns of our licensees while still requiring the basic information necessary for our inspectors to regulate the profession. Sincerely, ![]() Charles W.
