The Bottom Line

Department of Business and Professional Regulation

October 11, 2013

Dear Friends,

This past Saturday, the Florida State Boxing Commission hosted its largest boxing event of the year in Orlando. Saturday’s event included the Cotto vs. Rodriguez bout and was highly successful as more than 11,000 people were in attendance. Additionally, the event aired live on HBO so I’m sure thousands more tuned in. I’m happy to report that through the proper collection of the event taxes, the state also brought in more than $80,000.

The Florida State Boxing Commission licenses and regulates professional boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts. The Commission is also responsible for the approval of amateur boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts sanctioning organizations. Over the past year, the Commission has made several improvements to ensure that all safety standards are met as well as encourage an uptick in events so Florida’s economy can be positively impacted.

I’m proud that Florida was a fantastic host this weekend and we look forward to even more events in the upcoming months!

Sincerely,

Ken Lawson’s Signature
