The Bottom Line

Department of Business and Professional Regulation

December 14, 2012

Dear Friends,

Florida’s food service and lodging industries are a critical part of our state’s economy because they have a direct impact on every one of Florida’s citizens and visitors. As of January 1, 2013, our Division of Hotels and Restaurants will adopt provisions of the 2009 Food Code, which will better define inspection information for operators and their customers, making the whole process easier to understand.

One of the most important changes is a new three-tiered violation classification system that will replace the “critical” or “non-critical” classifications currently in use. The updates will lead to more efficient and smarter regulations which will improve restaurants’ inspection process, ultimately allowing them to better serve their customers. To download a copy of the new classifications or for more information on the 2009 Food Code, please visit www.myfloridalicense.com/foodcode. In addition to the changes for food service operators, lodging operators will also see the three-tiered system replace the designations of “critical” or “non-critical” violations.

We are confident that the updates will improve our partnership with restaurant and lodging businesses which are vital to Florida’s economy. Thank you for allowing us to continue serving you so that we may all maintain Florida’s reputation of being a great place to live and visit!

Sincerely,

Ken Lawson’s Signature
