Dear Friends,

This week, as part of our efforts to help ensure we protect the jobs of licensed professionals and businesses across the state, the Department unveiled its 2012-2013 Unlicensed Activity Media Campaign. Unlicensed individuals take away jobs from qualified individuals who have demonstrated competency in their respective field and doing business with those who are unlicensed can also cause serious personal and financial harm to consumers.

Throughout the multi-component educational campaign, we are encouraging consumers to check for professional licensure and to hire only licensed professionals. Additionally, we are also asking licensed professionals or businesses who believe someone is unlicensed and may be performing work that requires a license to file a complaint with our Department so we may investigate.

We are also partnering with the Florida American Institute of Architects (AIA Florida) to conduct a student video contest for architecture students throughout the state. The contest, which offers cash prizes to the teams who produce the best videos about the unlicensed practice of architecture, seeks to engage the student community in this important issue, which will impact their profession. You can also help protect the jobs of licensed professionals and the safety of consumers by notifying DBPR of any suspected unlicensed activity. Complaints can be emailed to ULA@dbpr.state.fl.us or reported by phone to 1-866-532-1440. The businesses and professionals we regulate are vital to Florida’s economy, and we are happy we can help protect the hard work they do day in and day out.
