We’re always looking for ways to improve our services for our customers, and I’m happy to announce the end to a successful Legislative Session where our three agency bills passed and are now on their way to the Governor for his signature. I am confident these bills will further streamline DBPR business processes and increase efficiencies for our many licensees.
First, HB 667/SB 852 protects the jobs of thousands of licensed Florida real estate appraisers by allowing them to perform appraisals on federally-related transactions in compliance with the Dodd-Frank Reform Act. Through HB 795/SB 842, the Department will be able to focus its regulatory and compliance efforts on restaurant establishments that pose a higher risk to the public, effectively reducing the regulatory burden for businesses that have a positive compliance history. Last, HB 57/SB 802 will authorize the Department to transfer certain excess funds to aid Florida consumers who were victimized by unscrupulous licensed contractors.
These three bills allow the Department to continue to license efficiently and regulate fairly: a pledge we have made to the great state of Florida.
Finally, for the past few days, I have enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate Public Service Recognition week. I am proud to serve consumers and our licensees in the company of so many talented public employees. This week was designated by Governor Rick Scott as a time to recognize the great work done by public employees and I am fortunate to see their dedication firsthand and am honored to serve with so many great Floridians.
