June 15, 2012 Dear Friends, One of the greatest parts about being Secretary of DBPR is the privilege to interact with many of the businesses and professionals that have a significant impact on the economy of our wonderful state. I think Harbor Pilots are one of the neatest professions we regulate, and oftentimes are behind the scenes so that some of you may not realize the great work they do for each of us. Harbor Pilots are highly skilled professionals that serve each of Florida’s 14 deepwater ports and ensure safe travels of foreign flagged cruise and cargo ships into and out of our ports. Oftentimes, Harbor Pilots keep watch over numerous foreign ships and assist local, state and federal authorities in keeping our ports, and ultimately those on land, safe. Without their tireless work and skills, our coastal areas and ports would be harder to navigate through and more vulnerable to any security risks. I appreciate the hard work all of our licensees do for our great state. We understand how vital you are to Florida’s economy and thank you! Sincerely, ![]() Ken Lawson Department of Business and |
