Dear Friends,
Today marks the opening ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics, and I am excited for the events to begin. Athletes from across the United States, including some from Florida, will travel to London to represent this great country of ours. These athletes will be among the top competitors from across the world during this wonderful tradition, and I wish them the best of luck.
Oftentimes, when the athletes return after the closing ceremony of the Olympics, they continue their athletic careers or embark on the journey to becoming a professional athlete, which may include hiring an athlete agent. Athlete agents are one of the diverse license groups that fall under our jurisdiction, and they must hold a professional license with DBPR to operate in the state of Florida. I encourage athletes to verify licensure of their agent to help ensure their interests are being looked after by a licensed professional.
I know that our thoughts and our well wishes are with all of the athletes representing the United States, especially those from Florida. Go USA!
Sincerely,
Ken Lawson
