Dear Friends,
This week, I had the privilege of attending the Base Commander’s meeting in Melbourne. While I was there, I was very happy to report that our military fee waiver bill is now law and became effective on July 1st. Under the new law, military veterans who apply to the Department for a professional license within 24 months of being honorably discharged from service will receive a licensure fee waiver. These waivers could save veterans anywhere from a few hundred dollars to more than a thousand dollars, depending on the license type. I am very proud of this legislation, and believe that this is the least we can do to thank our heroes who have made so many sacrifices for our freedom. We have already had some veterans take advantage of the waivers, and if you are a veteran, I encourage you to as well. Another piece of legislation passed last Legislative Session about which we have received great feedback was the law that reduced continuing education requirements for voluntary, inactive licensees in some of our professions. Through this effort, those licensees are able to activate their license and get back to work much faster.
I am so excited about the positive feedback we have been receiving from our licensees. Through these new laws, I believe we are on the road to finding a great balance between keeping Floridians and visitors safe all while ensuring that regulations make sense. It is truly an honor to be able to serve you and I appreciate the opportunity to continue to do so!
Sincerely,
Ken Lawson
