July 27, 2009
TALLAHASSEE—The Department of Business and Professional Regulation reminds cosmetologists that renewal for their licenses begins on July 31. Individuals can renew their licenses by visiting MyFloridaLicense.com and clicking the “Renew/Maintain Your License” link. This renewal period includes cosmetologists, facial specialists, full specialists, nail specialist, hair braiders, body wrappers, and hair wrappers. The renewal fees for these licenses can be found on the Web site.
Licensees must complete their continuing education and pay the renewal fee prior to the renewal deadline in order to maintain an active status on the license. Cosmetologists, nail technicians, facial specialists and full salon specialists are required to complete 16 hours of board-approved continuing education. Hair braiders, hair wrappers and body wrappers are required to complete a two-hour, board approved HIV/AIDS course prior to the end of each renewal cycle. Licensees are not permitted to work without holding a current, active license.
The Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s mission is to license efficiently and regulate fairly. The department licenses nearly one million businesses and professionals ranging from real estate agents, veterinarians, and accountants to contractors and cosmetologists.
