September is National Food Safety Education Month

TALLAHASSEE—In recognition of National Food Safety Education Month, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s Division of Hotels and Restaurants is reminding consumers and restaurant operators to take advantage of its online food safety educational resources. Consumers can educate themselves on the restaurant inspection process by accessing the results of recent restaurant inspections on MyFloridaLicense.com. The purpose of National Food Safety Education Month is to educate the public on food safety awareness and training.
“During this month that recognizes the importance of education in food safety, we encourage our operators to access the department’s online training materials, temperature charts and advisories,” said Secretary Charles W. Drago. “We also invite consumers to view recent restaurant inspections online and become more familiar with the inspection process.”
The Division of Hotels and Restaurants is charged with licensing, regulating and inspecting public lodging and food service establishments in Florida. Inspectors are trained by food service evaluation officers certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The division’s restaurant inspectors work to keep the public safe by reducing the risk of foodborne illness and cross contamination in Florida’s restaurants. The division conducts routine, risk-based inspections two to three times per year per establishment. The division also responds to consumer complaints.
