Darrick D. McGhee is the Director of Legislative Affairs for the Department of Business & Professional Regulations. He joined the department on October 20, 2008. As Director of Legislative Affairs, Darrick's responsibilities include coordinating the department’s lobbying efforts, preparing and reviewing legislative proposals and informing the legislature, Governor’s office and other interested parties about the department’s position on legislative issues. In addition, he also coordinates the implementation plan for new laws to take effect with impact to the department.
Prior to his position with the department, Darrick served as the Director of Legislative Affairs for the Department of Elder Affairs from February 26, 2007 – October 16, 2008 and also their Legislation Specialist from June 2, 2003 – February 23, 2007. He also served as the Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff & Director of the Governor's Internship Program in Governor Jeb Bush's office from June 23, 2001 – May 23, 2003. Here Darrick assisted with the day-to-day operations of the Chief of Staff's office and reported directly to the Chief of Staff on all staff matters. As Director of Governor’s Internship Program, he reported directly to the Governor on a bi-monthly schedule. Represented the Executive Office of the Governor at college roundtables regarding the enhancement of educational opportunities. Provided students with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the executive branch of Florida government.
Darrick received his formal education at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU). Here he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (with a Minor in Religion.)

Matilde Miller has been at the Office of Legislative Affairs of DBPR for the past 8 years. Her experience includes all areas of the legislative process from meeting with legislators regarding issues pertinent to the agency, writing amendments for the team and solving constituent issues, to tracking bills and coordinating the agency bill analyses. She is also fluent in Spanish and handles the Spanish-speaking issues for our office. Matilde came to DBPR from the House of Representatives Committee on Community Affairs. Prior to that, she was a Christian school educator for 15 years.
During Session, Matide’s primary responsibility will be lobbying the members and staff of the Florida House of Representatives on behalf of our 2.2 million licensees.

Scott Matiyow joined the Department's Legislative Affairs team in November 2006 after working three sessions in the Florida Senate for the office of Senator Bill Posey. Before working in Tallahassee, Scott had been an intern for Senator Posey in his district office in Rockledge. During this time, Scott was also interning in the district office of Representative Mike Haridopolos, who was Scott's college History professor prior to his run for the Florida House.
Scott originally moved to Melbourne, Florida from California in 1999. Apart from living in California he had also lived in Connecticut, Nevada, and Michigan. In 2002 Scott relocated to Tallahassee from Melbourne so he could be closer to the political process and could continue on with his education. Scott holds a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and a Masters Degree in Applied American Policy and Politics, both received at the Florida State University. When not working, Scott remains active by competing in local 5k races and playing the drums.
During Session, Scott's primary responsibility will be lobbying the members and staff of the Florida Senate on behalf of our 2.2 million licensees.

Jessica graduated from Florida State University in the summer of 2008, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. She worked as OPS in Legislative Affairs from January to May of this year, where she then went to London to study abroad. She has been working as the Legislative Specialist at the department since July.
She enjoys playing tennis, volleyball, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Mel has returned to this position, having worked during the 2008 Legislative Session. She is an FSU grad and a State of Florida retiree (the last 15 years with the Florida Public Service Commission). She will be primarily assisting the Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA) by answering the phones and assisting legislators and their constituents with regard to the many areas of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
