Florida’s top business regulator creates ‘in touch’ effort

Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation has launched a cost-free initiative it said is designed to obtain customer feedback.
Dubbed “Quality on the Line,” the effort is an opportunity for DBPR customers “to play an active role in their government and inspire positive changes,” a release said.
By sharing experiences and ideas in an online chat with DPBR Secretary Charles W. Drago, the department said it would enhance service, improve business practices and propose legislative changes.
The Web-based forum allows customers to interact with Drago one-on-one and extends the department’s reach to a broader group of customers who it believes may not have the time to leave work and meet with him at district offices.
In what the department calls “On the Road to Better Business,” Drago toured Florida to meet with the business owners and professionals the department serves.
“Challenging economic times call for more creative approaches to engage customers in department enhancements,” Drago said in the release.
The first “Quality on the Line” event will be in South Florida on June 2 from noon to 3 p.m. Drago plans to hold similar virtual office hours in each district.
During those periods, he will be at his computer in Tallahassee, reading and responding to customers’ concerns as they come in from the Web-based form. Following the online office hours, Drago will share his experiences through a “Customers on the Line” blog, the department said.
The department’s mission is to license efficiently and regulate fairly, the release said. It licenses more than 1 million businesses and professionals ranging from real estate agents, veterinarians, and accountants to contractors and cosmetologists.
