Rule Changes Expedite Licensing for Construction Companies
September 28, 2009
TALLAHASSEE—The Construction Industry Licensing Board recently eliminated the requirement that all applicants qualifying an additional business must appear before the board. Now, applicants qualifying an additional business, who own at least 50 percent of both businesses, do not have to appear before the board, expediting the licensing process and eliminating the cost associated with traveling to a board meeting. This change will make it easier for licensed contractors to start new companies.
The board also extended the time period from 60 days to 90 days that joint ventures are required to obtain a licensed contractor to qualify the joint venture after a successful bid. The 60-day time restriction was proving a hardship for many companies as most were using contractors that had to appear before the board to qualify an additional business. This change will allow applicants more time to complete the application process and remain compliant with Chapter 489, Florida Statutes.
