Keep Pets Safe This Holiday Season by Working With a State-Licensed Veterinarian
December 11, 2009
The holiday season can be full of hazardous temptations for pets, such as holly, mistletoe, tree decorations and chocolate. Aside from safeguarding their homes, owners should only take pets to state-licensed veterinarians.
“As a pet owner and frequent visitor at my veterinarian’s office, I understand the importance of having a trusted professional treat the furry members of your family,” said Interim Secretary Charlie Liem. “Make sure your veterinarian has a current and active license with DBPR.”
Pet owners should visit MyFloridaLicense.com to verify their veterinarians’ licenses, check the status of the licenses and research past complaints. Florida’s 8,538 veterinarians are licensed and regulated by the Board of Veterinary Medicine. DBPR provides administrative support for the board.
The Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s mission is to license efficiently and regulate fairly. DBPR licenses nearly one million businesses and professionals ranging from real estate agents, veterinarians, and accountants to contractors and cosmetologists.
