Customers On The Line - July 29, 2009

July 29, 2009

When I sit down at my computer for “Quality on the Line,” I never know what the most “popular” topic of the day will be. The topics range from condos to hotels and from licensing to continuing education. This week, the most “popular” topic, by far, was unlicensed activity. I would like to share some of the comments with you.

We need better enforcement of unlicensed contractors in the State. In a recent meeting of my Florida Marine Contractor’s Association, the vast majority of the contractors attending stated that competing against unlicensed contractors is the biggest problem we face.

I want to thank you for everything you are doing with the department and for taking time to listen to the real world workers that are out there making a day to day living utilizing proper licensure!

First, I would like to compliment your staff for a job well done in getting the word out on the dangers of unlicensed activity.

I was pleased to share with these participants that the Division of Regulation increased proactive unlicensed activity enforcement efforts by 64 percent last fiscal year. Although we are pleased with our success, we will continue to work hard to combat unlicensed activity through education, prevention and enforcement.
