DBPR Services for Military Personnel
At the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, our primary focus is helping people get to work. This includes military on active duty who hold professional licenses, military spouses and veterans of our armed services.
DBPR has several programs in place to assist these individuals with the licensing process, whether a spouse needs help applying for a state license after being transferred to a Florida duty station, an active duty member wants to keep his or her license current during a deployment, or a veteran is trying to obtain a license with experience earned during his or her service to our country.

Experience for Military Service
Beginning July 1, 2016 new provisions went into effect to assist U.S. Military Veterans applying for licensure. The new provisions specifically allow for experience gained in the military to be used toward the requirements for licensure.

Military Servicemember Public Records Exemption
Pursuant to s. 119.071(5)(k), F.S., any servicemember who served after September 11, 2001 who wishes to have their identification and location information, or the information of their spouse and/or dependent(s) held by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, exempt from public disclosure under s. 119.07(1) and s. 24(a), Art. I of the State Constitution shall provide a written statement to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation requesting an exemption.
For purposes of this exemption, a “servicemember” means a current or former member of the Armed Forces of the United States, a reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States, or the National Guard, who served after September 11, 2001.
The servicemember can make one or all of the following requests for exemption:
- The home address, telephone number, and date of birth of the servicemember, and the telephone number associated with the servicemember’s personal communication device.
- The home address, telephone number, date of birth, and place of employment of the spouse or dependent of a servicemember, and the telephone number associated with such spouse’s or dependent’s personal communication device.*
- The name and location of a school attended by the spouse or dependent of a servicemember.*
*Please note that the department does not keep the personal information of a spouse or dependent, unless they hold a license issued by the department. Under s. 119.071(5)(k), F.S., the provisions for exemption of the place of employment and school apply only to the spouse and dependent(s) of the servicemember.
The request for exemption only applies to licenses identified in the servicemember’s request. Information regarding any additional or subsequently acquired department licenses will require submission of a new request.
Written statements shall include a sentence stating that the requestor has made all reasonable efforts to protect identification and location information from being accessible through other means available to the public. Please address and mail written statements to:
