The Mandatory Non-Binding Arbitration Program
In 1991, the Florida Legislature adopted a law requiring mandatory non-binding arbitration of certain types of disputes before filing the dispute in the courts. The objective of the program is to provide a just, speedy and inexpensive alternative to litigation in the courts. In arbitration, an attorney-arbitrator functions as a hearing officer or judge and issues a decision or verdict after hearing the evidence and testimony. If a party does not appeal the arbitration final order within 30 days from the date of the order, the final order becomes binding on the parties.
