January 15, 2010 Dear Friends: The Department of Business and Professional Regulation has responsibilities that affect hundreds of thousands of businesses and professionals throughout Florida. As we license and regulate, we must always keep an eye toward simplifying and expediting processes. By doing this, we can support Florida's business community. However, we cannot accomplish this alone—we need customer feedback. Next week, I will start the "On the Road 2 Better Business, Part 2" statewide tour in Orlando. I invite those of you who are in the Orlando area on Thursday, Jan. 21, to join me any time from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Azalea Room of the Orange County Extension Office, located at 6021 S. Conway Rd., Orlando, Fla. 32812. I will be available to meet with you in a one-on-one meeting and listen to your DBPR customer experience and suggestions. We know that the people we license pay our salaries, so in a way they are our bosses. The best way to learn about how well you are serving customers is to ask. When we find areas in which our customers tell us our service is sub-standard, we take the information back to Tallahassee to do a post-mortem and change our procedures to make improvements in how we perform our duties. DBPR customers have a unique perspective that I'm eager to hear. I welcome any suggestions for enhancing services, improving processes or proposing legislation. Together, we can make Florida a more business-friendly environment. In closing, I'd like to share another great initiative aimed at keeping our youth safe. We've launched the "Why Not?" Spring Break Video contest and are asking 14- to 20-year-olds to share short videos on why they choose not to drink. Please share this with your children or friends with children. Also, if your children are using social media, please encourage them to share it on their pages. More information is available by clicking here. I hope to see you Thursday. Sincerely, ![]() Charlie Liem Department of Business and |
