The National Business Group on Health has recognized that, High annual increases in health care costs have been major problems for all employers in the US for a number of years, hurting our ability to grow and compete in a global economy. In recent years, Florida has been a leader in empowering businesses and consumers to make better decisions about how they consume health care.
The efforts began several years ago with Governor Crists efforts to establish www.myfloridarx.com, that allows consumers to shop and compare on pharmaceutical prices. This was a valuable tool for consumers, particularly those who are on high-priced medications.
Then, the Agency for Health Care Administration launched Florida Health Finder, http://www.floridahealthfinder.gov/, that will allow Floridians to compare prices and outcomes for a variety of procedures, a variety of providers and a variety of insurers across the state. Patients now have the ability to check the quality of providers and the value of services before they spend their hard-earned dollars.
The Office of Insurance Regulation has made the costs of insurance products for small businesses more transparent on their website where you can compare rates: https://apps.fldfs.com/sercs/.
And most recently, the Governor announced the launch of the Florida Discount Drug Card, which will provide eligible Floridians savings on drugs at over 3,000 participating pharmacies. An easy-to-use Web site, www.FloridaDiscountDrugCard.com, is available to help consumers learn which drugs are discounted and find participating pharmacies. Participants can also choose a mail order option by calling the Florida Discount Drug Card help line at 1-800-361-4542.
All of these resources are incredibly valuable to our licensees and can really make a difference for your employees. Health care is consuming an ever-increasing portion of every employers budget and every familys budget, and we hope these tools will continue to help you keep those costs down.
