Dear Friends,

This week, I had the privilege of recognizing talented and creative teenagers who are brave enough to share their messages on why not to drink this spring break. I stood beside alcoholic beverage industry sponsors to recognize these teens for their excellent 30-second videos on why not to drink.

The videos were part of DBPR's "Why Not?" campaign. The campaign was geared toward Generation Y'ers, ages 14 to 20, and asked them to submit 30-second videos about why not to drink. This campaign used no taxpayer or licensee dollars and relied completely on partnerships with the alcoholic beverage industry, SchoolTube.com and the Department of Education.

Using YouTube.com for submissions and tapping into a technology that teens are accustomed to, we received an outstanding response. It was very difficult to choose just three winning videos.

The DBPR "Why Not?" Florida Retail Federation First Place Winner is Brandon Gainforth, a student at West Ottawa High School in Holland, Mich. The DBPR "Why Not?" Charmer Sunbelt Group Second Place Winners are Andrea Likens and Kiersten Lampe, students at Deltona High School in Deltona, Fla. The Tri-Eagle Sales Third Place Winners are Paul Murphy, Dylan Parker, Caitlyn Chrisco and Will Harvey, students at Wakulla High School in Crawfordville, Fla.

The Florida Retail Federation, The Charmer Sunbelt Group, and Tri-Eagle Sales sponsored the prizes and provided Best Buy gift cards to the winners. This endeavor truly would not have been possible with the support of our partners. I am so grateful to bring people together for a good cause - keeping our teenagers safe from the dangers of underage drinking.

This spring break, I ask that each of you, whether you're the parent of a teenager, chaperone of spring break festivities or just a caring friend, please help share the word about how important it is to keep our underage youth alcohol free. You can view the winning videos, and more, by visiting MyFloridaLicense.com.

Have a safe and relaxing spring break.

Sincerely,
