I'm Maureen Olson, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Interim Secretary Liem is on annual leave this week, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to write to you. With temperatures reaching the upper-90s and summer officially starting this weekend, many of us are planning our vacations. We Floridians are fortunate to have plenty of vacation opportunities right here in our beautiful state.
Aside from our pristine beaches, there are many state parks that are a close drive for you, your friends and your family. This year, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection is celebrating the 75th anniversary of state parks. Many of the parks are offering special deals and events throughout the summer and the remainder of the year. To check out events in your area or plan a great vacation getaway, click here.
Also, for those of you who enjoy fishing, Governor Crist announced on Tuesday that there will be a free fishing weekend this Father's Day. All Florida residents and visitors are invited to fish statewide for saltwater species without a license during the upcoming Father's Day weekend, June 19-20. All other saltwater fishing rules continue to apply.
Vacationing in-state is a great way to save money and to appreciate all that Florida has to offer. I would like to wish all of you fathers and father figures a wonderful Father's Day. To my own Dad and husband—happy Father's Day.
