One of the benefits of communicating openly with other state agencies is that when one agency does something that could affect another agency's customers we can share that information. The Department of Revenue is reminding Florida's taxpayers that there is a tax amnesty period now through Sept. 30 for taxpayers who owe taxes.

The advantages of the amnesty period are that taxpayers will pay significantly reduced interest, up to 50 percent, and also pay no penalty. A business can be eligible if your liability tax, penalty or interest was due on or before June 30, 2010 and:

• You complete the Tax Amnesty Agreement.
• Your liability is not already covered by a settlement or payment agreement.
• You are not under criminal investigation for violating a Florida revenue law.
• You have not been convicted of violating any Florida revenue law.
