August 19, 2011 Dear Friends, Over the past four months, I've really enjoyed learning more about the different businesses and professions this Department licenses. DBPR affects so many Floridians and their jobs, and I take that responsibility very seriously. It's important to me that each profession or business is treated with respect and that our licensees know they are our number one priority. One of the professions we regulate is veterinary medicine. I've had the opportunity to visit with some veterinarians and their staff recently and hear straight from them how our Department is treating them and what we could be doing better. I'm so impressed with the importance of the work these men and women do – people really care about how well the furry or feathered members of their family are treated. The Board of Veterinary Medicine, which is chaired by Dr. Robert O'Neil, consists of seven members – five veterinarians and two consumer members - and is administratively housed in DBPR. The Board regulates veterinarians, veterinary establishments and limited service clinics. If someone you know is interested in becoming a licensed veterinarian, I encourage them to take a look at the Board's website. Study guide materials for the Veterinary Medicine laws and rules exam are now available online for added convenience. I appreciate the opportunities I've had to get to know our licensees on a more personal level and I look forward to visiting even more in the future. Thank you for allowing us to continue serving Florida's businesses and professionals! Sincerely, ![]() Ken Lawson Department of Business and |
