This week, the Florida Realtors® shared great news for Florida real estate brokers and brokerage firms that have been affected by the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. Brokers and brokerage firms that have experienced loss of personal income as a result of the spill can now file claims for economic damages. While NCA Claims Administration Professionals is processing these claims, we want to ensure that our licensees know about the program.

A real estate industry-specific Web site has been launched to help affected professionals obtain information and file claims. To get started, anyone can visit GulfReClaims.com or call 888-498-6944 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., EST, Monday through Friday. Claimants will need the following information in order to file a claim:

• Information about income stream
• Evidence of historical income
• Evidence to link the loss and incident, such as tax records, wage loss statements, deposit slips, financial statements, valid sales contracts, and any other claim-related documentation
• Photo identification
• Copy of your real estate license and license number
• Any other documentation supporting your claim

The economic impacts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill have been significant. The Florida Realtors® worked very hard to negotiate with Kenneth Feinberg and the claims administrator to set aside these funds to aid real estate professionals during this difficult time. We are proud of the work done by the Florida Realtors® to assist not only their members but also the rest of the real estate sales industry in Florida.
