September 23, 2011 Dear Friends, This is the time of year when the harvest of Florida’s fruits and vegetables is about to begin, and farm labor contractors play a key role in providing workers for these harvests. Farm labor contractor registration is unique because it requires a state license as well as a federal license from the United States Department of Labor. Our Division of Regulation staff have been in contact with our federal partners in Atlanta to make sure they know it is crunch time for Florida farmers and it is critical to get the farm labor contractors what they need to begin their important work. We are also conducting outreach to identify any farm labor contractors who may not be able to begin work because of licensing issues. DBPR is committed to cutting through the red tape and getting these licenses issued immediately so this valuable work can begin without delay. DBPR's Child and Farm Labor program is essential in protecting many of Florida’s vulnerable residents, and we remain committed to supporting these and other important programs. Sincerely, ![]() Ken Lawson Department of Business and |
