Dear Friends,
One of the Divisions in our Department is the Division of Drugs, Devices and Cosmetics, which is responsible for safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of the citizens from injury due to the use of adulterated, contaminated or misbranded drugs, drug ingredients and cosmetics. Because of this responsibility, we have been actively working with the Department of Health on the recent meningitis outbreak. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the two victims, and we will continue working to communicate as much information as possible to the facilities who may have received products from the New England Compounding Center (NECC).
With our state partners, we strongly advise all Florida health care facilities and practitioners to immediately stop using any products from the NECC. Facilities should follow the FDA recall procedures for these recalled products. The list of recalled NECC products is online.
Please feel call the Department of Health’s toll-free hotline at 1-866-523-7339 if you have any questions about this outbreak. Health care facilities with questions about how to identify affected products or how to dispose of any products may visit the Division of Drugs, Devices and Cosmetics’ webpage for additional information. We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available, and we are committed to working with our state and federal partners to protect the integrity of the state’s drug supply.
Sincerely,
Ken Lawson
