The Bottom Line

Department of Business and Professional Regulation

October 18, 2013

Dear Friends,

The real estate profession is very important to Florida’s economy and helping to ensure consumers are protected as they venture out to buy a new home is one of our top priorities here at DBPR. Throughout the past several months, the department has made various process improvements which are aimed at holding professionals accountable as they assist consumers in one of the most important transactions they will make in their lives.

One of these improvements is that the department has reinstituted the practice of conducting random audits of real estate offices to allow investigators the ability to more quickly identify potential fraud and escrow account violations. This will help DBPR stay ahead of violations that are potentially harmful to consumers and their way of life. It’s also important to note that 77 percent of all real estate cases are less than six months old, which means the department is getting more and more efficient when processing complaints.

Additionally, we have increased the number of attorneys in the Office of General Counsel who handle real estate cases. This will allow DBPR to better manage more caseloads and reduce or eliminate year-old cases, which will ensure continued compliance with Federal regulations as well as ensure a disposition to a case is processed in a timely manner.

I am happy to report that the department continues to receive a high number of real estate applications and that the profession is strong in Florida. All of the department’s improvements are geared toward helping to ensure we are doing our part to better showcase the good work of qualified real estate professionals throughout Florida. By taking efficient action, we are assisting consumers as they make the choice of which professionals to do business with in Florida.

Thank you for allowing us to continue serving you!

Sincerely,

Ken Lawson’s Signature
