Dear Friends,
One of our main goals here at the Department is to operate as efficiently as possible so we may better assist our customers. In order to ensure we are operating efficiently, it is also important that we are keeping up with advancements in technology, making it so our business practices are significantly improved. One of our largest advancements to date has been within the Division of Hotels and Restaurants.
Recently, the Division began using iPads to record inspection results, which replaced the outdated and obsolete Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) that were in use since 2003. The iPad inspection tool will now provide the Division's inspectors with email and internet connectivity, not only improving communication between office and field staff but also with our licensees. The larger screens on the iPad will also offer better visibility and a simpler format for recording inspections. Additionally, our licensees will benefit from the increased information available to inspectors during an inspection and faster document processing as the Division relies less on external communication methods, such as faxing.
As the largest food safety inspection program in the country, these advancements are critical and will keep us operating as efficiently as possible so we may better serve our customers. The transition to iPads has also been planned for our Division of Regulation and the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco in the near future, and I can’t wait to report the successes of this transition to you in the future. We are dedicated to getting out of the way of business and I think these advancements will help us in these efforts. Thank you for allowing us to continue serving you!
Sincerely,
Ken Lawson
