December 4, 2009 Dear Friends: I am honored to serve as the Interim Secretary for the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. For those of you who may be wondering what's next, Iād like to make a simple point: the agency is not about who is Secretary, it is about the people who work here, and the mission the Governor and the Legislature have assigned us. The professionals who come to work each day to answer calls, process applications, support professional boards, investigate complaints, audit licensees, and all the rest of the routine tasks of this department are the people who are responsible for the great strides we've made over the past several years. We are blessed to have such a talented group of individuals with strong work ethics. So, to answer the question about what lies on the horizon ā it is the same commitment we have had for the past three years to create a better environment for businesses statewide. As for me, I've always been struck by how dedicated our employees are. I've been in management for 40 years, and I believe that the keys to success are freedom and personal responsibility. The best managers recognize individuals' strengths and skills and then allow those employees autonomy and give them the responsibility to accomplish the mission of the department ā License Efficiently. Regulate Fairly. I'm grateful for the opportunity to shift from the Chief of Staff to Interim Secretary, and I look forward to continuing to make enhancements to better protect the public and support Florida's economy. Sincerely, ![]() Charlie Liem Department of Business and |
