The Bottom Line

Department of Business and Professional Regulation

January 24, 2014

Dear Friends,

On a daily basis, I communicate with licensees to better understand what we can do as a state agency to help make them successful. An idea came to me that we also need to reach out to future generations of professionals and business owners in Florida. To do that, we decided to create a children’s book focusing on various careers students can pursue in Florida.

First, we held a statewide art contest for Florida students in second to fifth grade. This art contest challenged students to explore their dreams and illustrate what they want to be when they grow up in Florida. Hundreds of Florida students entered the statewide art contest, and the DBPR Children’s eBook, “Follow Your Dreams in Florida, You Can Be Anything You Want to be!” is a collection of the winning students’ artwork. Additionally, the eBook explores many of the careers young Floridians dream of pursuing, including professions and businesses that are regulated by DBPR.

The children’s eBook has created an opportunity for us to teach children to explore their dreams of what they want to be when they grow up in Florida and expose them to real life professionals and business owners who are licensed by DBPR.

To accomplish these goals, I have scheduled several outreach initiatives throughout the state to read the DBPR children’s eBook to Florida students at local children’s museums. Industry leaders and professionals from across Florida will be joining me to give students an opportunity to learn more about the many different career options they have. Today’s students are the future professionals and business owners of Florida, and I hope to further educate them on the potential career and business opportunities they have when they grow up in Florida.

To read the eBook and share it with kids that are close to you, feel free to download it for free, by visiting the DBPR Kids’ Corner at www.myfloridalicense.com/kids. The eBook is available via PDF and iTunes through the iBookstore as well as Kindle in the upcoming weeks.

Sincerely,
