March 9, 2012 Dear Friends, As the 2012 Session comes to a close, I am happy to report that several key bills which will support military veterans seeking professional licensure and reduce regulations affecting businesses and professions throughout the state have been passed by the Legislature. Through these bills, we are able to reduce unnecessary regulations and support our businesses and professionals, especially military veterans, and encourage business growth throughout Florida. Under House Bill 887, all initial licensing fees are waived for military veterans returning from service, provided the veteran applies for licensure within 24 months of being honorably discharged. Also, House Bill 517 decriminalizes minor violations of rules for professional boards while maintaining the Department’s ability to impose administrative remedies. The legislation also allows the Department to comply with federal real estate appraisal standards in a timely manner and reduces the continuing education requirement for inactive license holders. We are confident that when signed by the Governor, these laws will have a positive impact on our current and potential licensees. Thank you for allowing us to continue serving you! Sincerely, ![]() Ken Lawson Department of Business and |
