June 8, 2012 Dear Friends, Here at the Department, we are always looking for ways to improve our processes and make the experience customers have with us even better. We recently sent a survey to our certified and registered construction licensees, and I’m happy to report some changes we will be making as a result of their feedback. First, there were many licensees that reported the application was too confusing, including that the verification of experience requirement was not clear. To help fix this, we have revamped the applications through our ApplyNow! project and provided detailed guidance on the application regarding specific types of experience that must be demonstrated in order to obtain licensure. Additionally, some of our construction licensees have raised concerns about having to submit credit reports. In order to determine financial stability and remain in compliance with Florida Statutes, credit reports will still be required when applying for certified and registered construction licenses. However, once a credit report is received, the need to submit bank account information and other financial documents is eliminated. This change will help reduce the rate of application deficiencies and allow for faster application processing times. Overall, we have made the instructions throughout the application easier to understand and streamlined the process so the time to obtain a license is reduced. We will be making similar changes in other professional areas, and I believe these changes will only make your experience with us better. Thank you for your feedback, and I look forward to reporting even more improvements in the future! Sincerely, ![]() Ken Lawson Department of Business and |
