July 6, 2012 Dear Friends, During this past Legislative Session, several pieces of legislation passed that impact our agency and our licensees. This past Sunday, many of the new laws became effective, and I wanted to make sure you were aware of the new legislation and how it may affect you. We worked hard to reduce the regulatory burdens, and I think these common sense changes will help us ensure Florida is the best place for business. Some of the highlights include the creation of a fee waiver for military veterans who apply to the Department for a professional license within 24 months of being honorably discharged from service; the repeal of criminal penalties for violations of Department rules for many of our professions; and the reduction of continuing education hours required to reactivate an inactive license for most professions. I encourage you to take a look at our Legislative Action Summary for full information regarding these and other changes that became effective July 1st. We are working on our proposals for the upcoming Legislative Session and look forward to making more improvements for our customers. Thank you for allowing us to continue serving you! Sincerely, ![]() Ken Lawson Department of Business and |
