State, FICPA to Certified Public Accountant Educators: Apply for National Research Grants

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) today urged Florida certified public accountant educators to apply for a research grant through the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). The national association is accepting applications for up to $75,000 in grant funding through its Accounting Education Grants Program. The deadline for grant applications is April 9, 2012.
“These grants will advance research on issues that affect certified public accountants, which will ultimately benefit Florida license holders,” said Secretary Ken Lawson. “I encourage our CPA educators to apply for these research opportunities and make our state a leader in the development of this profession.”
“This program presents an exceptional opportunity for faculty and postdoctoral researchers to study and share best practices with our profession,” said FICPA CEO-Executive Director Deborah Curry, CGMA. “I applaud NASBA for underwriting this research grant program and urge Florida accounting educators to apply.”
Through the program, the NASBA will fund up to three research grants at colleges or universities totaling a maximum of $25,000 for one-year proposals. Faculty and postdoctoral researchers at U.S. academic institutions are encouraged to apply. Proposals will be accepted in electronic format through 11:59 p.m. Central Time on April 9, 2012. Grant recipients will be announced on May 16, 2012.
Research interests of NASBA include, but are not limited to characteristics of successful CPA candidates; ideal or model curricula for successful CPA candidates; effective sections or rules of code of professional conduct to protect the public; characteristics of the best work experience requirements for certified public accounting; barriers or obstacles for minorities and other groups seeking a CPA license; and the success or failure of online accounting education.
