The Department of Business and Professional REgulation Awards Minority Scholarships to Aspiring Certified Public Accountants
August 28, 2009
TALLAHASSEE—Today, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s Division of Certified Public Accounting awarded $99,000 in scholarships to 17 minority students studying to become certified public accountants. The scholarships were awarded through the CPA Education Minority Assistance Program, which was created in 1999 to encourage minorities to enter the profession.
“It is an honor to be able to support and encourage these young people in their educational pursuits,” said Secretary Charles W. Drago. “It takes hard work and dedication to become a CPA, and I commend these students for working to enter this profession.”
The CPA Education Minority Assistance Program is funded by a $5 portion from each individual license fee. Scholarship applicants can be awarded up to $3,000 per semester for a maximum of two semesters.
