DBPR Harnesses Social Networking to Reach Customers
August 25, 2009
TALLAHASSEE—There is no question that social networking is today what e-mail was in the early 1990s—the newest and fastest growing form of communication—and today the Department of Business and Professional Regulation invites the public to find it on Facebook. By using Facebook, DBPR will be able to reach licensees, industry members and consumers with frequent, multi-media communications. Facebook users can find DBPR, become a fan and stay current on news by searching “Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.”
“How you communicate is nearly as important as what you communicate, and by using Facebook, we can share information directly with the people we serve,” stated Secretary Charles W. Drago. “This is one more way we can support open government through a direct flow of information.”
In addition to providing general information about DBPR, the DBPR page on Facebook will provide information, such as postings of Secretary Drago’s weekly “Bottom Line” message, links to recent news releases, upcoming board meetings, updates on renewal periods and rule changes, consumer advisories, short videos, photo albums, and more. The account settings of the page have been set so there are no potential violations of the Florida Sunshine Law or other state laws.
Facebook is a registered trademark of Facebook, Inc.
The department’s mission is to license efficiently and regulate fairly. The department licenses more than one million businesses and professionals ranging from real estate agents, veterinarians, and accountants to contractors and cosmetologists.
