Department of Business and Professional Regulation Increases Security for Cosmetology and Barber Licensees
October 6, 2009
TALLAHASSEE—Thousands of customers circulate through the chairs of Florida’s licensed barbers and cosmetologists daily. Although cosmetologists and barbers have known many clients for years, they frequently serve new customers. This is great for business, but some industry members are uncomfortable with the amount of personal information they must post at their workstations. Cosmetology and barber licensees are required to post their licenses, including their photos and home addresses, inside their workspaces.
In order to protect licensees and provide a safer work environment, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation chose to remove the addresses from cosmetology and barber licenses. Starting today, cosmetology and barber licenses will be printed without home addresses.
The department’s mission is to license efficiently and regulate fairly. The department licenses more than one million businesses and professionals ranging from real estate agents, veterinarians, and accountants to contractors and cosmetologists.
