The Department of Business and Professional Regulation Renewal Period for Real Estate Professionals and Appraisal Instructor Licenses is now Open
July 2, 2009
TALLAHASSEE—The Department of Business and Professional Regulation reminds real estate professionals that it is time to renew licenses. The renewal period is open now through Sept. 30 and includes licensed real estate professionals in the following areas: sales associates, brokers, schools, real estate and appraiser instructors, corporations and limited liability companies. Individuals can renew their licenses by visiting MyFloridaLicense.com and clicking the “Renew/Maintain Your License” link.
Prior to applying for renewal and before current licenses expire, all real estate brokers, sales associates, and instructors must complete continuing education courses. For the renewal following initial licensure, sales associates must complete the Florida Real Estate Commission’s approved 45 hours of post- licensure education courses, and brokers must complete 60 hours. For renewal periods other than the initial renewal, licensees not in compliance with all continuing education requirements by the expiration date of the license could face non-renewal or disciplinary action.
A real estate instructor whose initial license has an expiration date of less than 12 months from the issuance date does not have to complete continuing education requirements for the first renewal cycle. If the initial license issuance date was more than 12 months before the renewal period, the instructor must complete a seven-month instructor seminar with the Florida Real Estate Commission.
Appraisal instructors must complete 21 hours of continuing education which includes: a seven-hour continuing education seminar conducted by the board, a seven-hour Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal practice update, and seven hours of board approved specialty courses.
The Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s mission is to license efficiently and regulate fairly. The department licenses nearly one million businesses and professionals ranging from real estate agents, veterinarians, and accountants to contractors and cosmetologists.
