Restaurateur Arrested for Attempted Bribery of a Government Official
Iosif Nektalov charged with offering money and jewelry in exchange for a liquor license
August 13, 2007
Sunny Isles Beach (FL) — Agents with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco arrested Iosif Nektalov for attempting to bribe an inspector in exchange for a liquor license for his wife’s restaurant, Royal and Grill, located at 18555 Collins Avenue in Sunny Isles.
The agent inspected Royal and Grill in July and explained to Nektalov that it could not be issued the liquor license. Royal and Grill seats 90 patrons, but a restaurant must seat 200 to obtain the type of liquor license Nektalov wanted. During a follow-up inspection Nektalov offered the inspector money, jewelry, and cosmetic dentistry—gold teeth—in exchange for the liquor license.
Nektalov was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 8, by agents from the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and is being charged with attempting to bribe a government official.
The Department of Business and Professional Regulation licenses and regulates nearly 1,000,000 of Florida’s businesses and professionals.
