Florida Boxing Commission Referee, Judge Inducted into Florida Boxing Hall of Fame

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State Boxing Commission today recognized one of its licensed referees and one of its licensed judges for their recent induction into the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame. James Warring was inducted as a former fighter and Michael Pernick was inducted as a judge. Warring has served as a licensed referee for the Commission since 2003, and Pernick has been a licensed judge in Florida for more than 10 years. The formal ceremony honoring their induction into the Hall of Fame will be held in Tampa in June.
In addition to Warring and Pernick, four other licensees who work with the Florida State Boxing Commission are also inductees of the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame. Ringside physician Dr. Alan Fields was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009, and ringside physician Dr. Stanley Simpson was inducted in 2012. Two of the Commission’s licensed referees, Max Parker, Jr. and Brian Garry, were also inducted in 2009.
The Florida Boxing Hall of Fame honors former boxers and professionals who have contributed to the sport. The Hall of Fame may nominate and induct former fighters, referees, managers, trainers, timekeepers, promoters, judges, medical professionals and others associated with the industry. Specific criteria must be met for each nomination, depending on the type of professional.
The Florida State Boxing Commission licenses and regulates professional boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts and approves amateur boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts sanctioning organizations. The Commission, which is administratively housed within the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, ensures that all professional matches are conducted in accordance with provisions of state laws and rules. It also makes certain that health and safety requirements are met and that matches are competitive and physically safe for participants.
