Division of Pari-mutuel Wagering
OFFICE OF INVESTIGATIONS
The Office of Investigations examines possible statutory or rule violations that may occur in the pari-mutuel, cardroom, and slot machine gaming industry, including the 170 drug positives identified by the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine Racing Laboratory. Cases range in complexity from the investigation of falsified license applications and animal cruelty, to the use of performance altering medications or illegal substances during races. This office completed 912 pari-mutuel activity investigations. The investigations team also conducts substantial background examinations of potential permitholders, which include in-depth review of the applicant’s personal and financial background in order to ensure compliance with Sections 550.054 and 550.1815, Florida Statutes. During this fiscal year, this office completed 174 slot related background investigations.
Investigations may result in the issuance of administrative fines or penalties and hearings before the division director or a designated hearing officer, referrals to other regulatory agencies, or to law enforcement agencies for criminal prosecution. All division rulings are honored within the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, pursuant to the reciprocity agreements with members of the Association of Racing Commissioners International (RCI).
