Division of Pari-mutuel Wagering
OFFICE OF SLOT OPERATIONS
The Office of Slot Operations has oversight responsibility of state personnel located at each of the three pari-mutuel facilities that have slot machine gaming activity, as well as the regulation of day-to-day operations at the slot machine facilities, the daily revenue reconciliation, the licensing of individuals, and ensuring that the integrity of the slot machine gaming activity is in compliance with the requirements of Chapter 551, Florida Statutes, Chapter 61D-14, Florida Administrative Code, and internal controls of the individual facilities located in Broward County.
During the Fiscal Year 2006/2007, the Slot Operations Office completed 1,000 inspections. Of those inspections, 83 items were found to be non-compliant and 10 were turned over to the Pari-Mutuel Wagering Office of Investigations for formal proceedings. There were 220 shipments of authorized slot machines and components, which included the verification of 5,639 parts approved by Slot Operations staff. Slot Operations staff authorized and were involved in 585 slot machines conversions, denomination and/or game themes and other related slot machine changes.
During the Fiscal Year 2006/2007, there have been 84 patrons voluntarily or involuntary excluded from the facilities and 13 individuals under the legal age of 21 were found on the gaming floor.
Bill 1047 which became law July 1, 2007 released more regulating responsibilities to the Office of Slot Operations by authorizing the addition of manufacturer warehousing of machines and components in counties that are authorized for slot machine gaming. Additionally certified educational facilities also have the ability to obtain licensure to conduct training in the maintenance and installation of slot machines at authorized licensed facilities. On November 29, 2007 Miami-Dade County passed a referendum to allow slot machine gaming at their three pari-mutuel facilities with operations expected to begin in 2009.
