Inspect structures using engineering skills to determine structural soundness and compliance with specifications, building codes, and other regulations. Inspections may be general in nature or may be limited to a specific area, such as electrical systems or plumbing.

Requirements to be licensed:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must demonstrate one of the following eligibility requirements:
- Five years of either construction and/or building code inspection experience;
- A combination of post-secondary education in the field of construction or a related field and experience which totals four years, with at least one year being in construction or building inspection; or
- Currently hold a standard certification issued by the board and satisfactorily complete a board-approved, building inspector training program of not less than 200 hours.
Interesting Facts: Building inspectors first became licensed and regulated at the state level in 1993. Building inspectors can inspect structures from utility sheds to modular buildings from multi-million dollar homes to shopping.
