Veterinarian - Initial License by Examination (VM 1)

This application is used by individuals that will graduate or have graduated from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited school or university with a doctor of veterinary medicine degree. This application is also used by individuals who are foreign graduates and are enrolled or have completed the Education Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) program sponsored by the AVMA. Applicants must have successfully completed the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) within the past five years.

Application Requirements:
 
  • EDUCATION: A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited school or submit the Education Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) certificate if you attended a foreign school of veterinary medicine. The ECFVG program is administered by the AVMA.

  • EXAMINATION: Passage of the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam (NAVLE) administered by the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (NBVME) and the Florida laws and rules exam. For more information on the Florida laws and rules examination review the candidate information booklet.
  • FEE: Pay the required fee as provided in the application. If applying online, you can pay with a credit card or electronic check. If mailing your application, please include a check payable to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Military veterans may be eligible for a fee waiver, fee reimbursement, and/or fee discount. Please visit our DBPR Veterans Services page for more information.
