One and Two Family Dwelling Plans Examiner - Initial Certificate (BCAIB 1)

Certification can be obtained to perform one and two family dwelling plans examinations.

Application Requirements:

  • AGE: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be of good moral character.
  • REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must hold standard certification as one and two family dwelling inspector; must have passed the State principles and practices examination; hold a standard certificate as a plans examiner (any category); and hold a Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc. (SBCCI) or International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Coastal Construction Inspector.

  • WORK EXPERIENCE FORM: Work experience detail provided in applications is often too general and is missing hands-on experience. The person certifying your experience should be specific when explaining your duties and actual hands-on experience. In order to process your application more quickly, and not have your application returned to you, describe work experience in detail, including hands-on, supervisory or management responsibilities.

  • EXAMINATION: Applicants do not have to take a technical examination. Applicants are required to take the Florida principles and practice examination if their application is approved by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board. For more information regarding the Florida principles and practice examination, please review the BCAIB P&P Examination Candidate Information Booklet.

  • ENDORSEMENT: Endorsement is licensure of individuals who have already taken and passed a technical examination similar to the technical examination required in Florida. You will be required to take and pass the Florida Principles and Practice examination if you are approved by the board. For more information regarding the Florida Principles and Practice examination, please review the BCAIB P&P Examination Candidate Information Booklet.

  • FEE: Pay the required fee as provided in the application. If applying online, you can pay with a credit card or electronic check. If mailing your application, please include a check payable to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
